This is quietly harming your health

Blood Sugar and Hormones

Hello Reader,

Are you feeling tired, moody, or struggling with unexplained weight gain? The culprit might be hiding in plain sight: your blood sugar and hormones. These two things are intricately connected and play a crucial role in your overall health.

When your blood sugar levels fluctuate uncontrollably, it can throw your hormones out of balance. This imbalance can lead to a host of issues, including fatigue, anxiety, unwanted weight gain, irregular menstrual cycles, and even fertility problems. On the flip side, maintaining stable blood sugar levels can help regulate your hormones and weight, boost your energy, and improve your mood.

To support healthy blood sugar levels, consider incorporating these foods into your diet:

  1. Leafy greens (spinach, kale, collard greens)
  2. Berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)
  3. Nuts and seeds (almonds, chia seeds, flaxseeds)
  4. Fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines)
  5. Whole grains (quinoa, brown rice, oats)
  6. Legumes (lentils, chickpeas, black beans)
  7. Cinnamon (known to have a positive effect on blood sugar) - I sometimes add a dash or two in my morning coffee.

Here are some additional tips to help stabilize your blood sugar:

  1. Eat regular, balanced meals to avoid blood sugar spikes and crashes. For recipe inspiration consider this cookbook by Rachael DeVaux or this one by Rachel Mansfield.
  2. Include protein and healthy fats with each meal to slow down glucose absorption.
  3. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. (For that extra oomph in your water, consider using electrolytes like LMNT or others like it.)
  4. Manage stress through relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing.
  5. Get regular exercise, aiming for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity per week.
  6. Prioritize quality sleep, aiming for 7-9 hours per night.
  7. Limit processed foods and sugary drinks.

The good news is that you can take control of your blood sugar and hormone balance through these lifestyle changes and more. Eating a balanced diet rich in whole foods, exercising regularly, managing stress, and getting enough sleep are all powerful tools in your health arsenal.

Cheers to a healthier you!
