Stress Less: Natural Tools for Anxiety & Building Stress Resilience
Hello Reader,
Whether you’re a parent juggling school schedules and work, a student gearing up to tackle the last of projects of the quarter, or just someone feeling that end of school year rush, this time of year can feel overwhelming.
This feeling of stress is totally normal! Seasonal shifts naturally add to our mental load, disrupt sleep, and spike our stress response. But here’s the good news: you can build real, lasting stress resilience, naturally.
As a naturopathic doctor, I see every day how stress doesn’t just live in the mind; it can ripple into hormones, digestion, skin, and sleep. The key isn’t to avoid stress (which is impossible!), it’s to support your body so it can adapt, recover, and keep you feeling grounded.
Here are some of my favorite tools to help you stay calm and steady this August:
🍄 Adaptogens: Herbs that help your body adapt to stress
Adaptogens are special plants that gently support your body’s stress response system. Instead of forcing relaxation, they help your body respond more evenly to daily stressors.
✅ Ashwagandha Complex – calming for busy minds and can gently support sleep
✅ Rhodiola Adaptogenic Blend – helpful when you need more focus and stamina, especially on hectic mornings
✅ Tulsi (Holy Basil) Tea – a simple, caffeine-free ritual that soothes frazzled nerves
Why it matters: When used consistently, adaptogens can help smooth out the highs and lows that come with a packed fall schedule.
🧠 Nutrient support: Because stress burns through your reserves
When life feels hectic, your body uses more of certain nutrients, especially B vitamins and magnesium, which are crucial for mood regulation and energy.
✅ Methylated B-Complex – supports balanced mood, nervous system function & steady energy
✅ Magnesium Glycinate – my favorite form for calming the body and easing into sleep. This particular magnesium has helped my patients sleep through the night.
Tip: Pairing these nutrients with whole foods creates an even stronger foundation for emotional balance.
🧘♀️ Mindful moments: Quick daily resets that train resilience
Daily mindfulness isn’t just trendy, it retrains your nervous system to come back to calm more quickly.
✅ Insight Timer – free guided meditations for anxiety, focus & better sleep
✅ Breathwrk – easy, science-backed breathing exercises that shift you from “fight-or-flight” to calm in minutes
✅ Calm – beautifully designed for morning intentions or evening wind-down rituals
Why it matters: Even 5 minutes a day teaches your body it’s safe to slow down, lowering cortisol over time.
🍵 Simple daily habits that really move the needle:
- Start mornings with natural light exposure (supports healthy cortisol rhythms)
- Swap that third coffee for calming herbal tea
- Move your body daily, even gentle stretching helps
- Unplug from screens before bed to protect your sleep quality
Consistency is key to managing stress and staying calm when the world around you feels unsteady. These simple changes to your day can prove invaluable to your overall health.
