5 Things You Can Start Today to Boost Fertility

Trying to Conceive? Start With These 5 Fertility-Boosting Habits

Hello Reader,

If you’re in the season of trying to conceive (TTC), I see you. It can feel exciting and hopeful, but also overwhelming, emotional, and filled with so much conflicting advice.

As a naturopathic doctor, I’ve worked with so many women navigating this chapter. And while every body is different, there are a few powerful things I recommend to almost every patient to help support natural fertility and improve the chances of getting pregnant.

Here are 5 simple, impactful things you can start doing right now to support your hormones, your cycle, and your future baby.

Track your cycle. but like, actually track it.

Just guessing when you ovulate? You’re not alone, but it might mean missing your most fertile days.

Ovulation doesn’t always happen on Day 14, and period apps aren’t always reliable.

The best way to know when you’re most fertile is to track a few key signs:

  • Basal body temperature (BBT)
  • Cervical mucus changes
  • Luteinizing hormone (LH) surges
  • Optional: progesterone or estrogen levels

Some tools I love for this:

Journaling symptoms along the way also helps you get in tune with your body. You’d be surprised how many women notice a pattern in things like bloating, breast tenderness, or mood shifts once they start writing them down.

Eat to balance blood sugar (yes, even if you’re “healthy”)

Balanced blood sugar is huge for hormone health, especially ovulation and egg quality. Even if you eat clean, skipping meals or eating mostly carbs (hello, smoothie-only mornings 🙃) can throw your insulin and cortisol off.

Simple tips that help:

  • Eat protein with every meal, especially in the morning
  • Add fiber and healthy fats (like avocado or chia)
  • Cut back on sugary snacks and don’t go long stretches without food
  • If you want more support here, I made a super simple guide that’s full of food swaps and blood sugar-friendly meals: Grab my Blood Sugar & Hormones eBook

Ditch endocrine disruptors

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are sneaky little things found in a lot of our daily products. They can mess with your hormones and fertility, even at low levels. Think parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance… ugh.

But good news: you don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. Start with what you use every single day, like lotion, face wash, and household cleaners.

🛍️ Shop my favorite low-tox swaps.

Support your nervous system (because stress does affect fertility)

I know! Telling someone to “just relax” when they’re trying to get pregnant is the worst. But hear me out: chronic stress raises cortisol, which can delay ovulation and throw off progesterone. That doesn’t mean you need to live a stress-free life (who does?), but you can give your body tools to recover from stress better.

Things I recommend all the time:

  • 10 minutes of daily breath-work or meditation
  • Getting outside (bonus points for barefoot time in grass or sand)
  • Nervous system support like adaptogens or gentle vagus nerve work

Don’t wait to test

I can’t tell you how many patients wish they’d run labs before trying.

Even just a few markers can give you a huge head start and help you avoid wasting time. Thyroid issues, nutrient deficiencies, or sneaky hormone imbalances are common and totally fixable—but only if you know about them!

If you’re not sure where to start, grab my Fertility Labs eBook. It walks you through:

  • Which labs to run (and when)
  • What the optimal ranges are
  • What your results might mean
  • And what to ask for and how to ask for these labs from your OB

Starting with these 5 things can help you feel more empowered and connected to your body, which is such a beautiful first step in your TTC journey.

Accepting new patients

I am so excited to announce that I have joined the Oasis Health and Medicine team in Encinitas starting Thursday, July 3.

For my current patients, nothing has changed!

I will still be keeping my schedules and seeing patients at Olympus Movement in Vista, CA (Mon and Wed) and The Adapt Lab in Solana Beach, CA (Tues). I am just adding another location to fill up my Thursday schedule. I am truly blessed having to expand my schedule to accommodate the demand of new patients who wish to see me.

*Please note, I am no longer taking patients at The Adapt Lab on Friday afternoons*

I joined Dr. Pedi Mirdamadi, ND, Dr. Dan Sullivan, ND, and Dr. Chelsea Azarcon, ND at Oasis, and I have brought my knowledge and love of women's wellness and hormones, and skin and digestive health to the Oasis team.

I am eager and excited to expand my reach to the Oasis community and I welcome you to make an appointment with me so we can get to the root causes of your symptoms and have you feeling your best again.

The Morning Routine That Changed Lauren's Health Hello Reader, I want to share a real-life patient story today; one that might inspire your own morning routine if you’ve been feeling tired, stressed, or just not quite yourself lately. When "Lauren" first came to see me, she was doing everything right (eating clean, working out, trying to stay positive) but she still felt drained. She described herself as “tired but wired,” and her energy was tanking by 2pm. Her weight wasn’t budging, and her...

Gut Health, Hormones & Skin: What I Tell Every Patient Hello Reader, Here’s something I tell nearly every patient who walks into my office: “Your gut is talking to the rest of your body—even if it’s not screaming.” Translation? Even low-grade issues like mild bloating, constipation, or inconsistent poops might be a sign that your hormones, mood, or skin are being affected under the surface. TL;DR: Your gut isn’t just where you digest—it’s where you regulate. Hormones, skin, energy, even your...
